Sidikai is aiming to raise 10,000 to pursue a Fashion Revolution launching their first 100% sustainable collection for AW 2019.
Born from a lifelong passion for design and sustainability. We talked with Carlota and Mariana Gramunt , the sisters behind Sidikai about the campaign and their vision for the label.
Tell us more about SIDIKAI
Sidikai was launched in February 2017 but it was really born many years ago by then 14-year-old Carlota Gramunt (Co-Founder & Creative Director) and by me, her sister Mariana (Co-Founder & Ops.Director). Back then we started materializing a lifelong passion for design and the belief it is everyone’s duty to build a better world with what we are given, into what Sidikai is today: a hard-core sustainable fashion firm with design at heart and Circular Economy at the core.
Our vision is to lead the circular transformation of the fashion industry, and our way of doing it by constantly challenging everything we know is “broken” to incorporate Circular Economy values into every step of the production cycle, whilst creating exquisitely designed and well-crafted products. Our designs are Zero-Wate oriented, we only use sustainable fabrics, manufacture is local and at least one piece is made by a social project, and we are currently working on making our orders carbon neutral.
We love fashion in it’s the essence. We refuse to watch it be killed taking everything and everyone along with it. It’s time to reclaim its role as the agent of positive change it once was.
Do you think are people still not aware of the environmental price of the clothes they wear?
It is very complex the relationship between information, acquired behaviors and actual conscious decision making. Changing behaviors is the hardest thing, especially when we have been accustomed for decades to buy more, cheaper and wear always something new. It takes more than just information to impact every-day decision making. A conscious decision takes awareness, effort, and containment. (and, of course, alternatives you can have access to). This, today, given the mass consumption compulsiveness we are living in, is starting to appear in spheres of the fashion pyramid where target consumers are looking beyond a logo for a real story to build that sense of pride that comes from telling who you are through what you wear, helping with that decision mature and expand the sustainability segment, and progressively turn a “trend” into a habit.
We want our clients to feel they are not just wearing a jacket, they are wearing a calling for a revolution. Revolution only succeeds by empowering they few to become the many.
What is the goal behind the crowdfunding campaign?
The first goal is financial: we are an independent brand firmly committed to our creative identity and sustainable principles. We refuse to let other interests drive our decisions so our funding comes exclusively from the people who share our vision and believe their choices can make a difference. We have in place alternative funding strategies (such as crowdfunding) as well as a strict process for private funding to guarantee those interested in becoming part of Sidikai committed to the same values we are fighting for.
The second goal is building the revolutionary sentiment. We want our clients to feel they are not just wearing a jacket, they are wearing a calling for a revolution. Revolution only succeeds by empowering they few to become the many.
What is your vision for the brand?
We have been working hard on establishing the foundation for a Circular production process we can keep evolving as we grow as well as designing several lines of products to start launching in the upcoming months. Our goal is to work on our 2 pillars (Design and Circular Economy) to become a game-changing fashion player internationally to really drive that necessary Circular evolution of the fashion industry.
